We welcome the intention of the Indian Government to introduce a pioneering Communal Violence Bill this year to prevent, control and deal with the aftermath of religiously-motivated violence.
But we want to see revisions to the bill, so that it will include, for example, a stronger definition of communal violence, measures against police complicity, and the protection of witnesses, to help end the suffering caused by the horrific pattern of violence against religious minorities. Sign the Inclusive India petition and help us reach a target of 5,000 signatures by 19 September calling upon the Indian Government to make the bill as effective as possible.

To: His Excellency the Indian High Commissioner
We, the undersigned, very much welcome the initiative of the Indian Government to introduce a pioneering bill to prevent, control and deal with the aftermath of religiously-motivated violence.
However, we strongly encourage you to take into account the views of religious minority communities as recommended by the UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Religion and Belief to make the bill as effective as possible. We hope this will help to prevent outbreaks of violence such as faced by Christians in Orissa in 2008.
